900 years ago, a small gang of white-robed monks floated around Kirkstall Abbey. During this half term, there’s a rather different crowd lurking about the cloisters 🧟‍♀️

To avoid the crowds we went to Leeds Light Night around the @universityofleeds campus this year. 💡💡

I think it was probably a bit less spectacular than being in town - but I’ll take that to avoid the stress 🧘🏻‍♀️

Top tip if you are going tonight - find the installation in the Clothworkers Concert Hall. There are kid’s’ activities in there too - as well as the main hall of the Parkinson building

Imagine when I discovered this staggering exhibition had just opened as I happened to have a brief stopover in the Czech capital.

Btw, although they were new to me, I’m now a fan of architect and poet Pavla Melková, who collaborated with Gormley to create this exhibition looking to challenge how we view our surroundings and our place within them.

Lucky lucky me 💙.

Already planning for the next school holiday ☺️🫠

Having grown up in a small Lancashire village, going to Manchester always felt like a big deal 🚀. And I loved being back with my two kids. Even if going back to Afflecks reminded me of my age…

We were very kindly hosted by @citysuitesuk which was fantastic - as staying somewhere with a pool made it really feel like a holiday 🩳👙. And our apartment gave us lots of space to sprawl.

Full disclosure: I sent my kids on the trail throu

Full disclosure: I sent my kids on the trail through the heather despite it not being on our route 🤪💜. But with or without photogenic detours, Bingley is one of our very favourite Yorkshire days out.

St Ives Estate provides a lovely rugged walk, as well as arguably the best free playground in the region (plus a cafe).

Then we always go to the nearby @woodbanknurseries for lunch or a snack. It’s great for stocking up on plants and those strange gifts which are only available in English garden centres 🤷🏻‍♀️. On occasions, there’s also reptile and animal handling sessions for kids. But the very big draw for me (and my kids) is that it’s home to the very best vintage penny arcade. 🎰

Then, if we are very lucky, Curio Cottage will be open on the way home (opening times report as 2-4ish Thursday, Saturday and Sunday but take your chance) and we’ll come home with an antique we almost certainly don’t need. Yesterday it was a 1950s Scottish glass vase and a slightly dilapidated foot stool.

I can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday (or any day truth be told). Hope the bank holiday is treating you well?

Looking for a bit of magic and empowerment? God knows I was four and a bit weeks into the summer holidays.

Happily, we found it at @yspsculpture (#hosted) in the shape of Bharti Kher’s incredible Alchemies exhibition. Both inside and out, you’ll find a strange and wonderful mix of powerful, mythical goddesses.

It’s not often I get to introduce my little girl to a major exhibition by a British-born woman with south Asian heritage. Having chance to do this felt particularly meaningful this summer.

Other than Kher’s brilliant exhibition, the other welcome addition is the Little Wild Wood 🌳. This shady play area is perfect for younger children, but even my 8 and 13 year old had fun balancing and chasing through the tunnels and bumping into unexpected sculptures for a little while.

🌿🍄 So, you know, plenty of novelty and beauty to refuel the tank for another few weeks 🫠

There’s all the best stuff at @yspsculpture , just outside Wakefield in West Yorkshire. As we always have a brilliant day here, I was very happy to be offered a #hosted visit ☺️🎨🌱

Since we were there last, they’ve open a lovely play area in the woodland near the entrance, complete with picnic tables 🙌. And British-Indian artist Bharti Kher’s new major exhibition is all sorts of magical.

I’ll post some actual photos soon, which move at a less frantic pace 🏃🏻‍♀️, but here’s a glimpse at why we always come home happy (if a bit tired😅).

👧🏻 kids are free, and beside the play area, there are lots of trails and creative activities in the indoor gallery, plus there are some special children’s events coming up
🚙 parking is free (you can also catch the bus from the centre of Wakefield; it takes about 30 mins)
☕️ The site is huge but the paths are largely accessible and there is a good spread of toilets and cafes.
💒 my top tip is to stop by the chapel, there is always a fun exhibition inside

“Do come to bed now darling. The sound of you clinking those little balls through the curtain is getting tiresome.” 🎱 I imagine billiards was the 19th century equivalent of doom scrolling.

Our day in Vilanova i la Geltrú (a coastal town about 40 mins train ride south of Barcelona) was mainly about the large sandy beach with long waves perfect for bodyboarding (and packing the our inflatable bodyboard from Decathlon was a stroke of genius).

But as the provincal capital, the city offered some culture and fun away from the beach too.

1. The beautiful @museucanpapiol ❤️ (to enter this stately home there is a small fee for a guided tour. I did this without my kids 🙌)

2. Admiring the art @mvictorbalaguer (there is also intriguing ancient Egyptian artefacts and a small child mummy 🔍)

3. Door hunting around the town

I think cities with beaches are my favourite kind. 🌊🏫🏖️🖼️ ❤️
